The memory of Asel today
I think of myself today, and how I grew, and it tears me so much to know that Asel didn’t have the chance to grow to the point where I am today. He didn’t have the chance to continue his achievements, which I am sure would’ve been strong and valuable. It was all forcefully ended at 17. His future was robbed, and we were all deprived of his inspirational idea and thoughts.
I think of Asel today, and I am sure he was proud to be protesting on October 2, even though it cost him his life. Asel always believed in people’s rights to fight injustice through peaceful means, and that is exactly what he did.
Asel had a vision of what peace would be like. “You will be able to live in a place where an ID isn’t needed as well as passports or checkpoints.”
Today, each of us has the responsibility to keep his memory alive. Today, it is our responsibility to realize his dreams, despite the difficulties, because this is what Asel would’ve wanted, and would want.
“Out beyond ideas of right-doing and wrong-doing, there is a field; I’ll meet you there.”
